Furniture purchasing, in practice

Will the Furniture Reach the Room? Check the Building Route Before Ordering

Plan large furniture delivery through doors, lifts and corners using the largest approved delivery piece. Separate room fit from building access and assembly scope.

The sofa fits along the lounge wall. The reception counter fits its floor plan. Neither observation proves that the furniture can reach those positions through the building.

For a large custom item, delivery access should be reviewed while construction choices are still open. Finding a tight lift door after the furniture is finished leaves fewer options, and taking a part off is not always an approved solution.

Identify the largest piece that actually arrives

Ask whether the proposal arrives as a complete item or as defined components. Then obtain the dimensions and weight of the largest delivery piece, including the protection that must remain in place during movement. Overall furniture dimensions and carton dimensions serve different purposes.

The Bamboo 3-Seater Lounge Sofa treats packing and construction as project decisions. The Engineered Bamboo Reception Desk likewise requires installation details to be confirmed. Neither description guarantees that the supplied version separates into lift-sized parts.

Survey the route in sequence

Record the actual receiving entrance, corridors, lift and final doorway, including the openings available when doors are in their permitted position. Include handles, door closers, fixed barriers and changes of level that reduce or interrupt the route.

At a corner, the object needs space to turn, not just enough width to pass straight ahead. A narrow opening followed immediately by a wall can be more restrictive than the opening viewed alone. A lift's interior dimensions do not establish that its entrance or the approach outside it will work.

Give the delivery team a route record

Do not infer weight-handling permission from dimensions. The building operator must confirm lift limits and access rules, and the delivery provider must assess the handling method. This guide is not a lifting or rigging instruction.

Resolve assembly without creating a site improvisation

If the route does not accommodate the proposed delivery piece, request a reviewed alternative: a different approved construction, a permitted route or another agreed delivery arrangement. Any disassembly needs identified connections, instructions, responsible installers and a way to protect finished faces.

Do not assume that removing a sofa arm or cutting a counter will preserve the intended structure or finish. Nor should temporary removal of a building door be treated as available without permission. Keep commercial responsibility for access and site work explicit.

Recheck after the route or item changes

Link the surveyed route to the furniture revision. A larger top, altered base or later building fit-out may invalidate the earlier access review. Record which dimensions are measured and which remain provisional.

Send a large-furniture access enquiry with the product reference, route sketch and receiving conditions. Final packing, assembly format, handling and installation scope must be agreed with the relevant parties before delivery.
