A supplier sends a report headed “wood panel,” but the order is for a finished dining table. Before filing that report, ask which part of the table it covers. A document can be genuine and still leave the construction of the purchased item unexplained.

Start with a component list, not a material slogan
The rectangular trestle dining table is presented in engineered bamboo. That description does not identify every layer, adhesive or possible substrate. Request the agreed build-up of the tabletop, supports and any separate panel components. Do not fill a missing construction detail from the appearance of a photograph.
Let the actual construction determine the review
EPA’s consumer guidance identifies hardwood plywood, medium-density fibreboard and particleboard as the three regulated composite-wood categories under the US rule. Applicability depends on the actual product and applicable provisions, not simply whether its sales name contains “bamboo.” This guide is a document-preparation aid, not a compliance determination.
For a US-bound order, have the importer or qualified compliance adviser assess the confirmed construction. Neither “natural material” nor a report for a different panel is enough to declare the furniture compliant or exempt. Requirements in another destination need their own review.
Connect each document to something you are buying
| Record | What to connect | What remains unresolved without it |
|---|---|---|
| Component map | Named furniture part and actual layer build-up | Which material the report is meant to cover |
| Material identity | Panel producer, material reference and relevant lot information | Whether a similar-looking panel is being substituted |
| Evidence scope | Applicable document, covered product and responsible issuer | Whether the evidence fits this construction |
| Order connection | Approved item version and supplier confirmation | Whether the documented material will be used in this order |
Ask for readable originals and a short explanation of each match. A folder of unrelated certificates creates work for the reviewer; it does not close the gaps. Keep missing information visibly pending, including any question about a later material substitution.
Close the evidence gap before making a claim
If a panel supplier or build-up changes after sample approval, return that change to the reviewer before accepting the previous documents as sufficient. Record who confirmed the match and which order revision they reviewed. Do not place an emissions grade or regulatory claim on a reseller listing while that review is unresolved.
No model-specific emissions result is established by this article. Use the certification and test-report checklist for the wider document review. For a project enquiry, identify the model, destination and requested documentation so the actual construction can be discussed first.
