Contract Chair Glides: Start With the Floor Under the Chair

Specify chair glides against the actual floor, cleaning routine and approved attachment. Keep protection, chair movement and replacement as separate decisions.

A dining chair can be approved on a showroom floor and arrive at a restaurant with a quite different surface. The small component at the bottom of each leg deserves its own specification, rather than a last-minute request for protective pads.

The Modern Curved Bamboo Dining Chair explicitly leaves glides or pads for review against the intended floor. That is an open decision, not confirmation that a particular attachment is supplied or will protect every floor.

Identify the finished floor, including transitions

Send the actual flooring reference and its care instructions. Mark where the same chair may move between a hard surface and a rug, or between different finished areas. A room name such as restaurant tells the supplier much less than this information.

Ask the flooring provider about relevant contact restrictions. A felt-like appearance is not a material specification, and the name protective pad does not establish compatibility with a floor coating. Keep any required evidence separate from an ordinary appearance review.

Review the leg and attachment as one assembly

Request the proposed glide material, contact shape and fixing method with the chair-leg detail. Determine whether the component is fixed, adjustable or intended to be replaced. Do not add an adhesive pad over another fitting without checking that arrangement with the responsible supplier.

A changed foot can also change the chair's final height or its contact with the floor. Review the completed chair rather than approving a bag of loose pads independently of the furniture.

Give the operating team a comparison record

Under an agreed sample procedure, the operator can review contact and ordinary repositioning on a representative floor area approved for that purpose. This is not a durability, acoustic or damage-resistance test. Do not drag a loaded chair or deliberately abrade a finished floor to improvise a demonstration.

Keep floor protection out of the comfort approval

A chair that suits its table still has an unresolved floor interface if the feet have not been selected. Use the chair-and-table guide for fit, and record the foot decision separately. If replacement components are agreed, connect them to the handover and spare-parts record.

Send a chair-and-floor brief with the chair reference, flooring information, quantity and use conditions. Final glides, attachment, care and any performance evidence must be confirmed for the supplied version.
