Furniture Arrives Before the Room Is Ready: Plan the Storage Handover

Plan who receives and checks furniture during temporary storage. Confirm the actual storage environment and product instructions before moving goods into an unfinished site.

A completed furniture order may arrive before flooring, painting or room handover is finished. Moving it into the nearest empty space can create an unplanned storage stage. Decide who controls that stage before the delivery is released.

Choose a storage location that fits the product

The Coastal Chaise Lounge is an indoor-only product. A covered loading area is not automatically an acceptable storage location for it. The two-chair coastal set has different stated exposure limits, but that is not permission to leave either product in rain or construction conditions.

The Canadian Conservation Institute’s furniture-care guidance describes environmental conditions as a cause of damage to wooden furniture. Its general care discussion is not a tested storage specification for these bamboo products. Request instructions for the actual frame, coating and upholstery.

Agree what remains packed and what is checked

Ask which protective materials should remain, whether any inspection or ventilation is required and how the item should be supported. Do not prescribe a universal unpacking or acclimatization period. The appropriate arrangement depends on the delivered furniture and conditions.

Keep carton and item identities readable. If packaging is opened for an agreed check, record what was changed and how protection was restored rather than leaving the next team to guess.

Treat a wet or changing site as a new decision

Record water exposure, visible moisture or damage and seek guidance rather than putting the item back into the ordinary installation queue. Keep furniture away from ongoing wet work and uncontrolled heat sources under the site team’s plan. Do not derive a safe humidity percentage from a generic furniture label.

If the site cannot provide suitable holding conditions, discuss the delivery plan before dispatch. A delayed installation does not automatically authorize unpaid supplier storage or a different delivery address.

Close the gap between delivery and installation

At release, reconcile item identities and condition with the receiving record. This creates a documented handover; it does not establish warranty responsibility. Link it to the phased-delivery allocation. For a project delivery discussion, explain the expected storage stage, location and responsible team alongside the requested dates.
