Furniture purchasing, in practice

Board Game Cafe Tables: Size the Whole Game, Not Just the Board

Choose board game cafe tables around the board, player areas and drinks. Compare two bamboo table footprints and build a game-to-table purchasing brief.

The box fits on the table. That tells you almost nothing about whether the game will. A board game cafe needs room for the shared board, each player’s cards, pieces that appear later, and the drinks the cafe is there to sell. Choose tables from a game in progress, not a photograph of the opening setup.

Use your game library as the measuring kit

Select a few games that represent different demands: a compact card game, a shared board with individual player areas, and a game that spreads as play continues. Record the edition, expansion and intended player count. These details belong together; the same game name does not guarantee the same surface requirement.

Asmodee’s board game cafe guidance discusses table sizes for different groups and game-library storage. The purchasing exercise below adds a footprint test using the games you actually intend to lend. It is a proposed planning method, not a tested seating-capacity claim.

Compare usable shape, not just square centimetres

The Rectangular Bamboo Trestle Dining Table is listed at 140 × 70 × 75 cm. The Nordic Bamboo Restaurant Table includes a 160 × 80 × 75 cm option. On paper that option adds 20 cm of length and 10 cm of width. It does not prove that either table fits a particular game or player count.

Mark both outlines on a suitable trial surface. Keep the complete play area inside each outline and allow for rounded corners where applicable. A long narrow arrangement and a compact square board can use the same area very differently. Check whether a seated player can reach shared pieces without leaning across another person’s cards.

Try the chair while the game is underway

Include the bamboo arm dining chair as a seating reference if its style suits the room. Test arm clearance, knee space and pulling in toward the actual table. The trestle table’s panel legs and stretcher create different positions from a four-legged table. Upholstery, comfort over the intended session and commercial performance still require project review.

Place drinks deliberately rather than in whichever corner is left. Decide whether food is allowed at every game table. Do not add clip-on cup holders, recessed play wells or protective tops to an ordinary table quotation unless their construction and compatibility have been separately agreed.

Give unfinished checks somewhere to go

A bamboo open shelving unit is a possible library direction, not a verified game-box capacity. List actual box sizes and loading. Keep returned games awaiting component checks separate from ready-to-lend stock; otherwise a tidy shelf can hide an incomplete game.

For the room as a whole, use the chair-and-table fit guide. To discuss board game cafe furniture, send your sample game list, measured trial sheets, player counts, cup and food examples, floor plan and furniture quantities. Ask for a review of the selected table and chair combination before ordering the full room.
