Two dining chairs can use the same nominated fabric and still have quite different upholstery scopes. One has an upholstered seat and back; another keeps a visible bamboo back and adds a seat cushion.

That difference belongs in the item description before the fabric is priced or quantities are combined.
Compare the chair references component by component
The Modern Engineered Bamboo Arm Dining Chair describes upholstered seat and back cushions. Its engineered bamboo frame is a separate material component.
The Modern Curved Bamboo Dining Chair describes a four-layer curved open back and an upholstered seat. Its seat cushion may be removable or fixed, subject to engineering review. The page does not make that choice for every order.
These are different chair directions, not the same chair with different fabric colors. Record which reference is being quoted.
Mark the surfaces that need upholstery
Use front, side and rear views to identify the relevant parts. A note reading upholstered back can still leave the outer back unresolved: the surface facing the seated person and the surface seen from behind need not be the same construction.
For an open curved-back reference, keep the exposed frame visible in the drawing. If the project wants to add padding there, label it as a requested design change for review, not an included feature.
| Chair area | What to state in the brief | What not to infer |
|---|---|---|
| Seat | Covered area and proposed cushion arrangement | That the cushion is removable |
| Inside back | Upholstered, exposed frame or another requested treatment | That both chair references have the same back |
| Outer back | Required visible material and finish | That an upholstered inside means an upholstered outside |
| Arms or other frame parts | Exposed frame or a separately requested alteration | That the word upholstered covers the whole chair |
Resolve attachment separately from appearance
If a seat cushion must be replaceable, ask how the proposed cushion attaches and what replacement involves. A cushion pictured sitting on a frame is not proof that it lifts off without tools.
Keep cover removal and complete cushion replacement as separate questions. Neither establishes a permitted washing method. The contract upholstery guide covers construction and care requirements once the covered parts are identified.
Where the project orders several chair types in one fabric, keep each upholstery scope separate. Do not transfer approval of an upholstered back to a chair whose approved design has an open frame.
Put the accepted scope into the chair line item
Name the chair reference, covered components and exposed components alongside the selected fabric and frame finish. Keep any requested additions visibly unresolved until accepted.
During sample review, compare the made-up chair with the marked views from both the sitting side and the room approach. Record omissions or changes rather than relying on a single front photograph.
For a dining chair upholstery enquiry, send the selected references, quantities and marked views. Final cushion attachment, material build, dimensions and any required performance evidence remain subject to the approved project specification.
